Hi my amazing blog friends, it seems as though we have taken a bit of a shining to deep house, funky house, funky tech, nu wav funk, disco, electro popwop, just the lighter side of life and electronic music really. (That's not to say shit don't get deep cause it fucking does!)

Here's a song that has been floating all over the island of Ibiza this summer and made it's way magically into every Australian music festival this season, if you haven't heard it then you will at some point, trust me. We'll also be pumping it out @ The Sunset Bar (Llama bar, Subiaco) every Friday in-between 5pm-9pm until we see fit!
It's been remixed and bootlegged around the clock, Round Table Knight's, Treasure Fingers to name a few, however you do know what they say, nothing beats the original ;-)

Friends the time is upon us, Change is in the air.

First of all huge congrats go to the groovenuts blog as this is post number 70! this may seem like fuck all to the average blogger but when you are as useless as we all are then it's worthy of a bloody trophy!

Sunset Evenings @ Llama Bar

However bigger than that, we have finally got a permanent residency! Friday nights at The Llama Bar in Subiaco is where we'll be playing. The three of us would like to see you all there for a taste of some summer jams between 6-9pm. The Sunset Bar seems to have an amazing energy to it, so come say hello. We'll be sending out emails and details of drink specials, guestlist entry and loads more. If it all sounds a bit too commercial don't worry it's not, Millsy runs round in there with his shoes off chasing anything that moves ;-)

This Friday is a tricky one as we have double booked ourselves, it is of course La Fiesta @ The Lux Bar! Ok if you do the math Subiaco (llama Bar) and La Fiesta (Lux Bar) aren't exactly geographically close and we are sorry, the fact that I'm having to point this out means I know it's a big ask for you to swing by before La Fiesta but this is our new gaff and we run a muck here too.

If any of you feel like some early nibbles and some funky beats before la Fiesta kicks off then please feel free to slide out into the sunset bar from 6ish onwards, it means a lot and were playing some funky shit.

La fiesta will be kicking off at 8pm and going hopefully until 1am we are looking at a fucking solid crowd too so there's a few things you need to know.

Dress Code = Funky (same as llama bar really), no holden t-shirts or baseball caps etc.

The weeks are hammering past, I cant even find time to scratch my groovenutz!

Due to time restrictions, a little like water restrictions this year, I'm having to keep my blog post's to a minimum (WTF else is new haha). I was suppose to put some Metallica tunes up after going to see them rock out in Perth on Friday night, how proud was I to be a Metallica fan! However this isn't the point and not why I'm so excited, hop, hop!

WE ARE SO BLOODY EXCITED 'La Fiesta' our up and coming bash @ Lux Bar on November 12th. Is looking set to really kick off! Already so many people have replied it's actually quite insane, now if we can just hold each and everyone of you to your words then I'll gizz me pants "geeza!"

I wish this blog could get more exlusive material, unfortunately this isn't the first blog out there to post this song but we'd be a close second or third so that must pass for something? Any hew I'm very excited about Gypsy & The Cat, since writing about them some time ago I continue to follow there movements and always enjoy reading about different media picking up on there success. Today on twitter they posted a link to Neon Gold's blog. The now new an up and coming record label was an old blog I used to read a lot previously called 'Good Weather for Airstrikes'. They have posted a remix of 'The Pipers Song' off Gypsy & The Cats up and coming album, due to be released in early November.

I love this remix and I've only listened to it twice, it's a great dancable track, the synth work in it's brilliant, I'd love to play like that! and it's by Aeroplane what more can you ask for. Wicked tune to bring in summer just like neon gold suggest, I'll be playing it down at the beach that's 4 SURE ;-)

Friday Nights Animal Rights!

Deadmau5 has this habit of tricking people into thinking he's never going to really make good music like that of his first releases. Recently I sat and watched him (Live on stick cam) working on one of his new dubstep tracks, me along with 2000 other people were amazed, he sat there crafting a new song, smoking a cigaret and playing the same grimmy, dirty, duby loop over and over. Here was this amazing shitful sound coming through our laptop speakers at a piss poor 64kbps (or whatever his onboard soundcard was spitting out, probably less) enthralled we all watched and listened on, we didn't care it was deadmau5! 10 min later I got bored of him and switched him off.

Right then I had one of my moments, what the fuck do I really see in dub step music!? It's 2/4 bullshit that takes away from the soul of dance music, overated! The little fucker had tricked me into thinking it was cool, just for a minute I almost went out and purchased some dubstep. No, piss off! I went back to discovering new deeper underground labels and artists that will always rock my world, up your's Deadmau5.

Some time later my phone buzzed, a text message from DJ Millz came through, it read "Animal Rights!" my reply was, with out even realizing my stupid head rant "Yes yes! it brought the Havianna Club house party to it's knees mate!" I was refering to a house party I had suddenly remembered Djing at a week ago, I remembered how this song had killed the fucking pig at the Havianna Deck in Bunbury and who's track was it! yes friends none other than Deadmau5, (obviously Wolfgang's collaboration is in there too but who gives a shit really), Deadmau5 had done it to me again the tricky little funky fucker.

So today I'm sifting through alot of shit tunes in my inbox and also some really really good ones, low and behold what pokes it's little head up but an edit of non other than Animal Rights.

On this magic Friday night groovenuts gives you Animal Rights.

After collecting tunes for years (especially good bootlegs) you begin to realize how important they really are, like a good one off T-shirt, no-one selse has one. A song that you can pull out of your crate and have people running up to you and asking 'Whats this!?" is always great to have.

Last night I stole a very rare house song out of one of our own groovenutz dj's crates, 'Dj Millz', infact when he finds out he's probably going to go ape shit...And I'll just laugh, why? because sharing amazing music with the world is important to me, giving back what great bootlegs gave me is only fair, being able to allow other people to dance around the kitchen in there undies/knickers means the world.

So go, go now and take this holy 'Booka Shade' bootleg, take it to number one in the early morning 'Redge Grundie' kitchen charts. Play it LOUD! Dance around in your kitchen like nobody is watching, forget about closing the curtains your 80 year old land lady cant see that far ayway ;-)

Things are looking good in the groovenutz camp. We are getting ready to finish 3 of our own tracks all with a house, electro tech vibe, whats more here's a mix I did for a Dj competition!

Shape Night Club run an evening on Saturday's called 'Habitat'. I'm not saying we won the competition and it does have a small audio scrubbing glitch in it thanks to a dying soundcard, but its not a bad mix and I'm happy to put it up for you all to give me some feedback. The mix was done using a CDJ 1000, Traktor running 2 CDJ 400's and an LPD 8 and one turntable that never got a mention due to sheer laziness

Two days ago I promised I'd post something that I'd heard on a bus. Just another ordinary morning half asleep, not at all sure if the songs I'd copied onto my Sony Walkman had even transfered. Finally some music through the headphones, woot! Still half asleep when that all too familiar shiver down your spine kicks in, it's beautiful that music can do that.

So thanks to Triple J un-earthed about 4 weeks ago I downloaded Gypsy & The Cat, I wish I could say I was just scrolling myspace and found them on my own but good old un-earthed does it again, bless.

These two boys are from Melbourne and have been recieving alot of attention thus far. They started out writing together in 2008 after meeting one another as Dj's. They attempted to make some techno but moved onto song writing and say they have an albums worth of songs built up. I cannot wait to hear them!

It's easy to see where these boys draw there influences from but honestly there is something really, really special about there music, some might argue it's slightly under produced but I'm loving there raw sound and just know they have what it takes.

When I first saw the line up for Parklife I was so pumped, I was 'yaa hooing' and 'high fiving', but my excitement was soon lost as I discovered that I would unfortunatley be at work for the festival, F#!K it!

There's something about the way music evolves that makes me proud and sends a shiver through me. After reading the book 'Last Night a DJ Saved My Life' (The history of the disc jockey) by Bill Brewster & Frank Broughton, I was amazed. How far we have come! From the very first time 2 records where played together or since the very first 12 inch was pressed for DJ use. The days of Northern Soul and Underground Disco through to thriving House music. There have been so many huge inovations in both production and Djing that you have to think can it possibly go any further . Then along come dudes like Deadmau5, Sebastien Ledger, Justice, Daft Punk, Bang Gang Dj's, Aphex Twin, live acts like the Prodigy the list just goes on and on and on.

And then there is this guy.

Here's some of what it says on the 19 year olds BIO :

Avicii had only been producing a few months when his friends noticed that the productions were amazingly professional and that they had just witnessed a great talent being born. Avicii started out with doing a remix of the theme music for the Commodore 64 game ‘Lazy Jones’, but decided to drop it as it inspired him to make his own ‘Lazy Lace’ - released almost immediately on Strike Recordings.

Avicii was instantly fascinated with producing and spent many hours in his home studio creating one fresh tune after the next. Avicii never tried to get caught up in a specific subgenre of house, but wanted to keep the productions up to date and innovative. His music is inspired by the likes of Laidback Luke, Steve Angello and Tocadisco, but also Daft Punk, Eric Prydz and that of Axwell.

What Avicii wants is to create music for people to listen to and come to love, whether it be at home or in a dark nightclub. Avicii puts great emphasis on melodies in his productions and wants to appeal to fans of many different house music genres. Avicii signed on to At Night Management in May 2008 and within a month the buzz around them spread noticeably and they were recognized on labels such as Joia Records, Vicious Grooves and Ministry of Sound, just to name a few. By the end of that month, Avicii had already signed a big deal with Vicious Grooves in Australia and were head on target to soon explode over the entire globe.

As we grow our taste buds change and so does our musical pallet. Some of you might have started out listening to Little Richard and Tina Turner, whilst others Hit pix 88 tapes or Sonya Dada. From there hopefully you made up some ground and staggered forward. My chosen path of musical fate has led me to 'Tech House' this years next big thing, the genre of choice which along with Disco is ripping the dance world to shreds.
Here's what Wikipedia has to say about Tech House :

Tech house, like progressive house, represents a fusion of house and techno. However, whereas progressive house tends to incorporate atmospheric, ethereal, almost ambient sounds and is often mixed to varying degrees with trance and progressive trance, tech-house tends to have more in common with soulful deep house, traditional Detroit-style techno, and contemporary minimal techno, with which it is often mixed in practice. When I first heard this song I thought Radiohead had finally gotten there shit together and come out with another 'Karma Police', or 'Fake Plastic tree's', sadly not so, It's another amazing remix by Erol Elkan under his Beyond the Wizards Sleeve guise. I've been so lucky lately adding labels on beatport that are only just releasing new material after years of hibernation and rechecking websites right in the nick of time! This song is a fucking monster and I mean that in the most Funk trodden Disco drenched kind of way. This however Is a remix of an Aussie girl from the sticks Lenka, who like many other Aussie artists have made there way to New York or L.A to produce new music. The remix is by a guy called Mike Dextro who from what I can gather is also a promoter/Dj, great stuff.

Last month I promised an exclusive track from some fresh local Perth talent, and this month after waiting for the moon to turn right I am delivering. It seems as though new genre's are the way forward and the Beta Blockerz have launched fair onto it.Poptronica is the nu disco of disco, the nu rave of rave or the electro..nica of pop.

There's several ways music usually goes through my head. I'll hear a song and think wow! that's amazing, as soon as I've discovered the song I'll scramble around for a pen, texta or whatever and frantically jot down track and artist. The other way is the good old grow on you method, a track that pass's through your play list every so often and slowly makes it's way into your head. That's what the Beta Blockerz new track has done. I liked it the first time played it out and became more into it very listen, very catchy.

This track got to me was after I found myself humming it yes it took the second option of wowness but after a few listens I was more than bopping around the speakerz. When it gets to the stage where your life has become engulfed by music then you know your rolling high. Things have, without question, started to kick of here (OZ) for summer. The weather (global warming permitted) is sorting it's shit out, people are buzzing and music festivals, club nights, bars and pubs are firing. These may be just some of the reasons for our lack of recent posts or could it just be that our hangovers are to unbearable to even go near the keys?

If I was to write a post now regarding every amazing gig I've seen in the last 4 weeks I'd be here for ever, no shit I would! But what I can do is break it down, give a top 5.

Starting with the French genius Joakim, when I say the word genius I really mean genius. The French producer's label TIGERSUSHI has a pretty impressive line up in itself even without Joakim. I had the pleasure of seeing him play at a recent beach party @ the OBH along side LA riots (who don't really deserve a mention). This gig has to be in my TOP 5 gigs of the summer (so far anyway).
Joakim's devesirty, and his ability to make amazing music then play a set that sounds nothing like his own productions is a fucking cool quality. The set i saw him play was so Italio Disco driven but yet so up beat it had everyone going crazy!!
So here's a few of the man's beats, he also in another project with a live band labelled JOAKIM & THE DISCO. Please do be keeping your eyes out.

Two days ago I wrote a post regarding two songs, the first bieng a classic rework of Laurent Garnier’s 'Man With The Red Face by Mark Knight and Funkagenda

I made reference to how great a tune is and how it was voted Ibiza best track of 2008, which is a pretty big title to win regardless of how you percieve the dance island. I heard the track for the first time on a club system on saturday night and the saxaphone blew my head off, or at least I think it was the saxaphone?!

The second tune made mention (and thats getting on in the blog world) was Cut Copy remixing UK great's 'The Kaiser Chiefs'

Something in the blog world that get's over looked often is breakbeats, I've been pumping out a few breakbeats myself and to be honest it can be a relief to hear such solid fat beats. The Ambar night club where Yuksek played 2 weeks ago is always unleashing the break fury with it's resident Dj's pumping up the bigbeats for late night revelers. In Perth there's also RTR's 92.1 fm on Monday night a popular show that run's different genre's throughout the week broadcasting the 'full frequency' series.

For those of you who dont know Revolver here's a little history.

Address: 229 Chapel St, Prahran, Melbourne

Revolver Upstairs was established in 1996 as a multi arts/multi media venue and Thai restaurant. The venue features some of the finest international, interstate and local musicians and DJs, of all genres including rock, pop, hip hop, electro, break beats, drum n bass,Techno, country and everything in between. The venue also plays host to street and modern art from around the globe and is regularly used as a performance space for dance, drama, film and comedy.

One of the best ways to understand the venue is to consider that Revolver Upstairs patrons could potentially arrive on a Friday night and leave on the Monday morning having borne witness to the best of many underrepresented styles of art and music from around the world, all embraced under the one roof.

Revolver is also Famous for it's 2 Resident Dj's Spacey Space and Boogs who (featured in the above video) are held in high regards for there long sets and early morning anthems. Keeping up with promises to post (a little) fresh (being Australian) music here is one along with a couple of revolver's best kept secrets. I might also just like to add that sometimes an original completely outshines any remix and in this case more so than ever, no offence Tiga but the day you read this blog is the day my aunty has balls and becomes my uncle.

Watching these made me think back to my early rave days in Melbourne or even Victoria for that matter. I remember one specific event at an offshore festival in Torquay, Geelong. Sonic Animation where playing in one of the dance tents, It was about 2am and from out of the woods came the shufflers. Never in my life had I seen anything like it, I was so blown away by these dancers all with there own unique styles. Blast from the past!

Music has come along way since then, nothing against hard house or trance but I think I'd be one munted human if I still listened to that all the time.

The posts have been few and far between as has the creative input... however. Irony is a beautiful thing, this weekend I'm Djing in a Tee Pee @ a return to Woodstock party, the irony is I've just got my hands on some new tunes that seem to be a return to the 70's type Psychedelic/Rock sound. By now most of you will be familiar with the new justice single D.A.N.C.E (if not the video is below). This type of funky music in my opinion definitely does have that raw 'Jackson Five' feel, dashes of 70's disco with new electro pop, how good! I did a post a few months back of a new avalanches single again with similar sounds and feel. Today I give you (along with the aforementioned of course ;) a new dance floor filler.
Sonny-Jim could very well be a member of the avalanches because this dude samples just about fucking everything, so cool! his myspace page also has a tune on it called 'I'm so heavy' that's a pissa!

CUT COPY into the 90's and beyond

I had no plans last weekend, just to sit at home and get stuck into Ableton Live, do a few mixes, get wasted and probably call a few lucky punters, but this all changed. I thought I'd check inthemix to see what was going on in 'PDP' (poor deprived Perth), fark me! I'd missed Cut Copy playing @ Amplifier Bar on Friday, I was shattered, but wait.. thankfully for me I decided not to do a complete dummy spit, I scrolled down: Saturday 26th may, second show announced, 9pm, it was already 9pm! The odds where stacked against me! I had downed a few brews already and had no bloody chance of a quick taxi. Enter the flat mate sent from heaven.. YOU BEAUTY!

This blog can’t be that good yet cause I still had to queue up, as did I have to pay (all for a good cause I'm sure). None the less the lads from Melbourne turned it on, with there futuristic rock influenced electro and vintage pop goodness, twas fucking mint. Into the 90's and beyond to be exact!

If you plan on dragging these into some cheesy pub and playing them then don't bother, about half are low bitrate (128kbps) some are cool but majority are fucked. mash up a few samples and I'm sure that no-one will know the difference, but forget about spinning some of these. Well I promise you this one has slipped under the Aussie DJ radars.. or has it?

I get excited when I hear a song like this cause it means that maybe, just maybe there is hope for the commercial world. Teenager are Aussies just as Eskimo Joe are, I think this remix is enough to suck some life back into a far too played out song. Fuck you commercial radio, thank you Teenager.

Styalz Fuego an urban Aussie hip ta hop producer does a mint job of this remix, an almost trance like version of Sneaky Sound Systems 'Pictures.' It's up there with the Bag Raiders remix I'd personally prefer to rip out the Bag Raiders mix at a party but this remix definitely deserves several plays up loud!

Kids a new sound emerges

I think the ultimate test of putting a new tune through it's motions is to play it to a crowd who has no fucking idea what it is, or where it came from, ie playing an electro/breakbeat set to a group of nun's.

I'm not writing sideways to talk about myself, however this weekend I played in front of a tough crowd, mostly male orintated and all virgins bar a few to the sounds of the fresh new Blog world. enough said as the next two songs seemed to attract just about everyone to a non exsistant dancefloor.

Hats off to these two lads from Milwaukee, Wisconsin as they have absolutley slayed it, they are The Glamour . Thanks go to the kissatlanta Blog for helping me discover them! everything that was said about these guys was spot on.

So as it seems this blog game is slightly trickier than first envisaged, our last post was over a week ago! Far from the original cry of 2 -3 posts a week.

My great uncle was a 'Rat of Tabruk' or as most Australians know, a 'digger'. He fought a war with purpose and meaning, when war was fought for the sake of stopping invasion of our country, not for the prices of oil, or to gain popularity at the polls. Kings park was so beautiful today, it made me think of the first time I was taken there as a surprise at night. The dawn services was over pretty quick compared to that of an Anzac service at Gallipoli, but non the less served the same purpose, to pay our respects.

War is a terrible tragedy that has a sad reality of bringing comrades together, just as I believe music can and will continue to do

Ok from what I can gather a good blog is one that gives you ** FAF (Fresh as Fuck) ** music, this is a song that I picked up from the Ambar nightclub several months back and am sure it hasn't been released yet. Although Amy B wasn't with DJ Q45 when he came to Perth (poor & deprived), he still managed to slay it! I cant remember the last time I've been that mesmerised not even bothering with a single best on dance floor performance.
